Mates Alister Murphy and Craig Arnell are pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally Winter 2024!. The rally involves driving a car worth no more than $1,500 from Melbourne to Alice Springs via every back road and goat track, and hoping we and the car will make it in one piece.
Our purpose is to help raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia. Our individual goal is $10,000 but the rally itself aims to reach over $2,000,000. The rally also provides a big cash injection into the Outback communities we visit along the way.
We are seeking your donation and support !!!
Our Story
This cause is very close to Craig and Alister's hearts. Craig's mother Denise was diagnosed at 51 and sadly passed away at age 59. Denise was the recipient of a trial drug that gave her another 8 years to enjoy life and see her second Grandson born. Its the great work of the Cancer Council, that makes these trial drugs possible.
While Craig's mother was getting cancer treatment, his wife Rosie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer while pregnant with their first son. Fortunately Rosie was able to carry their son close to full term and is a Breast Cancer survivor. Not only that, Rosie has gone on to achieve some incredible things, like rowing a boat across the entire Atlantic Ocean !!.
Alister lost his best mate Michael to Bowel Cancer at the young age of 32. It was an incredibly aggressive cancer and Michael lost his life within months of being diagnosed. Michael sadly left behind a wife and young daughter. Alister also lost his Father in law Gary to prostate cancer. Seeing both Michael and Gary living their final moments in a Hospice was gut wrenching. Anything we can do to see the quality of life improved to those suffering is our goal.
Craig and Alister greatly appreciate your support and donation. We'll keep you posted with updates along the way. Next step is finding our ultimate Shitbox car.
Regards
Alister and Craig
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
