Our Story …

Jesters Darts are taking part in Shitbox Rally Winter 2024!

250 teams are driving their shitboxes from Melbourne to Alice Springs in June 2024, and (hopefully) home again!!

Team Jesters Darts are:

Jackson Beavis (Head Brewer at Woolshed Brewery)

Tim Pryor (Hotel Manager at Lighthouse Wharf Hotel)

Jack and Tim are founding captains of the infamous darts team The Jesters, share a joint interest of throwing darts at a board, and also mighty adventures. We have been talking about doing this rally for years, and now the opportunity has come about to go on this adventure, all while raising money for the Cancer Council.

Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 14th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the Winter 2024 rally target set at $2,000,000 plus.

These funds go to Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Our first team sponsor is on board!

Gareth Lewis from GA Entertainment has chipped in for the effort - Thankyou for the donation and sponsorship of our team!

Gareth has done a rally back in 2019, and has great memories of the trip, a pic of the pig rig below. Woolshed Brewery has been involved with Gareth through the Beer & BBQ Festival, and organising an amazing battle of the bands competition at Woolshed Brewery leading into the 2023 BBF. Some great bands turned out, with Storm the Crown form Victor Harbor taking the judges choice, and going on to play at BBF 23.

Gareth is also a program manager for MusicSA, promoting local bands and the live music scene.

Family owned hop growers Ellerslie Hop have chipped in for the cause!

Woolshed Brewery have been using Ellerslie hop for years, and I personally am a big fan for their tasty hop called Melba. I use this in our best selling beer Summer Ale for a bit of local flavour.

Being from Victoria, with an office in Melbourne, I'm hoping the team can be there to see us off on day 1 of the Rally at the starting line!
A generous donation from Bintani to support the team. Bintani have supplied Woolshed with malt, hops, and brewing aids over the years - and continue to provide this great service.

I've dropped in to the Melbourne warehouse once with a definitely not shitbox, my 1974 XJ6 Jag when I thought it was a great idea to fly to Melbourne, to buy and drive this beast home. I can tell you that this adventure taught me a lot of things about buying jags.. but that is another story!

Cheers Bintani and the whole team.

April Update!

A charity weekend at Woolshed Brewery, with great success! A small but enthusiastic crowd came to help do some fundraising for our cause. A sausage sizzle and raffle were held with prizes donated by Woolshed Brewery and Daves Work and Safety Renmark, with one lucky winner announced lat Sunday Afternoon! Groove Garden Djays provided the exceptional vinyle based beats for the weekend, with reports of "that sort of music shouldn't be played near the river".. whatever that meant haha!!

Our original shitbox, a 1998 Volvo S70, never made it out of West Lakes, not through lack of trying though,, the poor thing!

We gave it all we had, but with our budget and time constraints, we had to move on. Sad to see it be left behind, We had the flat caps, driving gloves, and Sweedish flag at the ready. Onwards!!

So.. we are pinning our hopes in the current shitbox ..

a 1993 TOYOTA TARAGO 2 seater van!!! Plenty of room in the back, Well maintained local bus, it even has a CD player! I have promptly installed metallica and limp bizkit CDs for the journey.

With futuristic yet wombat-esque stylings, this could either be mistaken for a UFO, or native Australian mammal, depending on lighting conditions and time of day.

Time to get its large rear end plastered with our sponsors logo so they too can be as proud as I am of our find.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
