Hi friends, Joel and Garth have been pals for a very long time and have pretty much run out of things to do together. So next year we are going to put on orange Stackhats and drive thousands of kilometers through Australian desert, scrub, swamp and more desert, in a car that can cost no more than $1500 - yes, it's the Shitbox Rally Winter edition 2024!
Our convoy of beautiful Shitboxes will travel from Melbourne to Alice Springs via a completely non-sensical route that takes in towns with evocative names like Tibooburra, Windorah, Bedourie and Tobermorey.
There will be adventure, reptiles, inadvisable driving conditions, duct tape vehicle maintenance and, of course, fuzzy dice.
This incredible event is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia, and now in its 14th year, the Shitbox Rally has raised more than $41 million.
So how can you help? Firstly, wish us luck. Secondly, please send us links to amateur DIY mechanic videos. Thirdly, and most importantly, please donate!
Of course, every donation will earn you a signed, personalised and individually numbered glamour photo of Joel, Garth and our Shitbox. That's a given.
But even more excitingly, every donor will be coming on this journey with us - because we will put your face on a sticker and slap it on our Shitbox.
Significant donations above $150 will earn you oversized stickers, and more prominent placement. For example, we expect Garth's generous mum will take pride of place on the bonnet.
Of course if you are uncomfortable having your face on our car, you are welcome to send whatever photo you like - for example, your spirit Pokemon.
Remember, all donations will go to the Cancer Council. We are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity and we are very grateful for your contribution.
Please make sure you follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
